Trip Report May 6

Post by RikWriter »

I spent the whole day on the carcass out at Dorothy's and was rewarded by at least three and possibly four wolves from the Junction Butte pack, four different coyotes and a bald eagle.
Someone wearing a road vest tried to haze the wolves by running after one of them and spraying paintballs at it. I found out she's not even a park employee, much less a Ranger, and is merely a grad student volunteer for the Wolf Project. Someone with more connections than I chewed her out and called the senior Ranger and told him that if there's wolf hazing to be done with paintball guns, Rangers should be doing it, not grad student volunteers, if for no other reason than the young woman has little to no firearms training and shooting that thing as haphazardly as she did around civilians with no eye protection brings on severe liability issues.
Me, it's my opinion that if you try to control the animals, you're running a zoo.
