Wolves of the Wapiti Lake Pack

I thought maybe I was being headstrong, jumping into a last-minute flight to Jackson on May 18th to catch the reopening of the parks. I also felt like I was getting there too late. My original plans were May 4-18, and if I had followed them, I would have missed this. The Wapiti Lake pack was incredibly active in late May, killing at least three elk that I know of and as many calves. They gave me my best wolf shots since 2012.

Fantastic shots! We finally saw them this week, but not a view like you had. The alpha female is one beautiful wolf

Yeah, it was a great trip. And even on May 27, when the wolves were all over the carcass all morning long, the most cars we had stopped was 20-25, at late morning. Most of the morning, there were only a handful of people there.

Oh, almost forgot. Here's a shot of the alpha by herself later on.
