We got our first taste of the real Wyoming wind this morning when we saw it had picked up our two heavy trash cans and deposited them about 80 feet away across the yard last night.

Welcome to Wyoming! I think the W really stands for wind. At least it isn''t as bad here as it is in the southern part of the state. A word of caution, driving between Powell and Cody at night watch for deer. I don't drive it often but I do see quite a few road killed deer along the way. The same is true for the Wapiti Valley in late fall and winter. Even driving slowly I've had more panic stops than I care to think about. I've been lucky so far and not hit any deer or elk but I'm constantly aware of the possibility and almost never go the speed limit when it is dark.

I already had a family of four deer cross the road in front of my truck on the way home from the movie theater in Powell one night.

Had a bald eagle in one of the trees in my yard for 5 hours today. The red tail hawk who frequents the trees tried to scare him off, but he wouldn't leave. Also saw what I think was a screech owl two nights ago in one of the trees. I was shining my flashlight because the dogs were doing their business and the beam lit up his eyes.

Rik, Sounds like you are off to a good start with wildlife in your yard. Did you get some photos of the eagle?

How are you and your wife liking Wyoming so far? It's quite a change from Florida!

I got a bunch of photos of the eagle, but I haven't uploaded them yet.
So far, we're loving Wyoming, particularly Powell. People are so friendly here.
