Re: Katmai July 3 - 6: Brooks Camp

Andrew, your shots are fabulous! I'm so glad you had such a good trip. Photographing the Brooks River grizzly bear salmon feed and photographing the Spirit Bears of the Great Bear Rain Forest in BC have been on my bucket list for years. Had a chance to go 3 years ago but just when I had enough money...

Re: October 2017 Current conditions

If you go to the Official Yellowstone website, the Park provides all the latest info on road conditions and road closures. The north slope of the Beartooth Mountains were covered with snow this morning but the roads in the foothills are still dry. Went to Billings early this morning and saw a big he...

Re: Slough Creek

rzrpirate, if you want to reduce your driving time, gas consumption and maximize your time each day in the Park, then you may want to consider securing your campsite first, at the start of each day, rather than wait until the end of the day, when most campgrounds have already filled. That way you'll...

Re: Slough Creek

If you want to get a site on opening day at SC, it's gonna be hard. You probably won't be able to get a site unless you're willing to spend all night waiting for the barricade to be removed on the CG entrance road. The barricade is usually set up by the outfitter's horse station, where people can tu...

Re: Slough Creek

Getting a site at SC is very difficult, at best. On opening day, there may be as many as 20 cars in line with all the people waiting to get a site at the campground. There are less than 20 sites now so the competition for sites is fierce. That being the case, concentrate on getting a site....any sit...

Re: Yellowstone Trip June/July

Alicia, if you can, be sure to check out the meadow and the area between Sites 11 and 13 at SC. Site 13 (the old site 26) has been our favorite site for years. What makes it so special? That's where you'll find the local red fox, coyote and badger, when they're out on their daily hunt. They passed t...

Re: How early is too early?

If you want to visit the Park early in the spring, it's important to keep a close eye on the current weather and road conditions in and around the Park as well as on the status of the Park's general stores, service stations and campgrounds. Most don't open until late May or June so Park services wil...

Re: End of May, 2017

Well done, Rick! Seems like we always miss each other by a week or two. This year we didn't get to the Park until mid June. Next year, I'm going to bring a GoPro camera and an extended pole up to Trout Lake. Met a camper two years ago who had a GoPro and he took the most stunning video of the trout ...

Re: Yellowstone kills aggressive bear near Heart Lake

Based on the chronological history of this young griz (which appears in the press release) I bet many people have the same concerns as I do. In 2015, the young bear began exhibiting bold behavior toward people. So, how does the Park discern "bold" behavior from "curious" bear behavior or the behavio...
