Re: A few from June 2019

That's one handsome wolf... I assume a pup or a yearling? The proportions don't look filled out yet. It almost looks like a melanistic coyote. ;)

Tonga 2019

I thought I had shared these photos here, but I guess I forgot. In August, Jenn and I went to Tonga to swim with humpback whales. It's a trip I'd been planning for some time, but then was forced to reschedule from October because of the WPY stuff . The trip was a lot of fun, though going earlier pro...

Thoughts on a Bison in a Snowstorm

http://www.maxwaugh.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/04/bisonamerican0218ys44.jpg As many of you know, my photo of a bison in a snow storm won the Black and White category of the 55th annual Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition. Today I published an article about the past encounters in Yellowst...

Re: Polarizer use in photography

I'm cracking up a bit, because I remember a thread on the old version of this forum that turned pretty nasty, and the topic was polarizers (someone insisted they should be kept on all the time, and took offense when others disagreed). This is a nice illustration of the difference it can make when us...

Canon 600mm f/4 IS II Lens For Sale

We no longer have a Classified section, but I wanted to let everyone know that I'm selling my Canon 600mm lens. This is the primary lens I've used in Yellowstone (and elsewhere around the world) the past three+ years for wildlife photography. It's in good shape (minor paint chips and scratches on th...

Re: Thoughts on third week of Sept for YNP, Bozeman, Big Sky?

You may have snow, obviously, but with the exception of a huge snowstorm, accumulation is still fairly low. The northern road should still be drivable without four wheel drive, keeping in mind that they still break out the snow plows if there's a big storm anyway. Take it slow in colder conditions a...

Looks like the weather was perfect, with a great mix of scenery. That waterfall spot looks gorgeous.

San Juan Foxes 2019

In June I led a couple of short photo trips to Washington's San Juan Islands, where we photographed the resident red foxes (along with some other wildlife). It was incredibly fruitful, and in five days I ended up taking more photos than I've taken on any other trip other than Tanzania this year. The...
