GTNP/YNP early October trip...

Hi all, it looks like I'll make into GTNP and possibly YNP at the first of October. Can anybody tell me if the elk rut will still be on? Where is the best place to find them in GTNP? Also, are the chances decent to see grizzly bear around Pacific Creek Road and/or Pilgrim Creek Road at that time? An...

Re: July 19 Wolf, Badger, and Summer Update

Thanks for the report and pics! I'm envious of your ability to just take off and be in the park in a couple of hours. I thought about buying a house in Bozeman, so as to be able to have a similar situation. Then I looked at the house prices.

Re: Video of Wolf Chasing Elk into the Side of a Car

Wow, that's the thing that makes YNP so compelling -- you just never know when or where something very dramatic might happen. Nothing like this is likely to happen with wildlife in most any other NP, with the possible exceptions of GTNP and Glacier. Or maybe one of the Alaska parks. Oh, yes.

Re: Automated Trolly Service

Ideally, I'd like to see a free bus service taking people from parking lots at Mammoth to other parts of the park like Old Faithful, Lake, Canyon, etc... It would cut down on the car traffic. I'd agree with such a bus service for your garden variety tourists who just want to see those big attractio...

Re: Person attacked by grizzly bear in West Yellowstone

Well, how do you know it would have been limited to a bluff charge? I'd say that a bear that killed a man and then charged at seven men is a bear with no fear of humans and will continue to be a very dangerous bear to other park visitors. People do come first.

Person attacked by grizzly bear in West Yellowstone

When I saw the title, I thought, wow, right in West Yellowstone. But it was actually near a campground north of town.

Sandwedge, can I ride with you next trip? :D It seems like you have some great timing for arrival to the park!
