Re: May 20

Thanks for posting these Rik! We arrive on Thursday and this info has been very helpful. Sounds like your good days more than make up for any slow ones! We're 2 nights at the Lake, 2 at Canyon and then one each at Cooke City and Mammoth before hitting Chico on our way back to Bozeman. Hopefully that...

Re: Gear Question

It's tough (but fun!) getting ready. We're 9 days out and I'm laying things out now, will finish over the weekend. I really wish I took a pic of how I carried everything last year. The 600 was a bit too wide for the carry on with the pelican insert, so that went in the Lowepro lenstrekker. The rest ...

Re: May 11 and 12

Thanks Paula, great info and sorry to miss you yet again! I went looking for some boots last year and our local supplier showed me a pair of Tingley ultra lights. I was amazed at how light they were (2.1 pounds shipping weight). Still bulky, but I packed as much as I could inside them and was able t...

Re: May 11 and 12

Wow! Thanks for the report! I'm there in a week and a half. It sounds like the crowds are early as well as the bears!

Re: May 11 and 12

That DOES sound like a great day! I'll be there the 23'rd through the 30'th. Save some sightings for me lol! I'm packing a pair of lightweight waterproof boots to slip into in case the field near Canyon is flooded. I'd love to sight my first Great Gray, but I'll take what I can get. Does it seem lik...

Re: Gear Question

Winona, The 100-400 was my lifesaver! I'm still finding I use it a lot more for distance shots that I do my 600, although I have a friend who swears by his 600 on a monopod. He's from New England but we ran into him at Dunraven shooting some bighorns early one morning last spring. He was backing awa...

Re: Max's Full Spring 2018 Trip Report (May 25 - June 7)

Great reports Max, thanks! Fantastic photos! I almost feel like I was with you too....wait a minute, I guess I was lol. I saw you guys at Sheepeater and caught up with you again shooting the owls in Mammoth (thanks for the heads up on location and there being no Elk around, they seem very protective...

Re: Gear Question

Thanks Paula! The water levels were just as everyone said. Some of the picnic tables at Nez Perce were essentially out in the river. We saw three water crossings, 2 with Bison (2 adults crossing the Yellowstone near Alum Creek and 4 adults and 2 red dogs across the Madison - a little hairy but they ...

Re: Gear Question

Paula, That was such the perfect case I picked up an older used version shortly after I bought the lens. I think the older one is carry on legal, but I was nervous about it (and the weight) so I picked up this insert for a Pelican case that fits really well in a standard carry on bag with rollers. T...

Re: Gear Question

Thanks Max and Paula! My instinct told me to leave it, but I had second thoughts. I picked up the 600 used locally and am having fun with it, but it doesn't get too far from the vehicle. I'm going to have to decide whether to keep the 600 or my older 500 and the weight is definitely a factor. Maybe ...
