Weather Alert
Heads up if you're heading to the Park. We've had snow in the Beartooth's the past two nights. Not much along the north slope but enough to make the roads icy and hazardous. Looks like there are some road closures in Yellowstone along with a weather alert. Thought you might like the Park link if you...

Re: Replacing camera memory cards
Max, I looked at the memory card wallets when they first came out (many, many years ago). Just checked the specs on the current ones from TT. They're still made out of nylon with no mention if the wallets are 100% waterproof or not. That's why I prefer doing "the baggie thing". Here's my rationale. ...

Re: Replacing camera memory cards
Hi Alicia! You're probably going to get some different answers to your question because the answer is fairly dependent on 1) the personal philosophy of the photographer, 2) whether or not their camera is programmed for back button focusing 3)how many pix they normally shoot for an event or how long ...

Re: Yellowstone Trip June/July
Rich S. If you want to see elk at the end of September, I would try driving over to the Mammoth area..in/out town, by the Mammoth Campground, the hills and fields just east of Hwy 89 and by the Mammoth Terraces. The elk gather by the Terraces at night. The thermal landscape helps keep the newborns a...

Re: Grizzly sow and yearling cub in Little America
Rik, you can see Buffalo Creek from the Slough Creek Campground. Buffalo Creek (a tributary) flows into Slough Creek. The convergence point can be seen from Site #7. Good spot to photograph wildlife safely. There's also a large open meadow on the other side of Slough Creek that's visible from Sites ...

Re: Yellowstone Trip June/July
Dorothy, thanks for the kind words. If you park at one of the SC fishing pullout areas, I think you'll be OK with a wheel chair but you'll likely have to stay at the pullout. Unfortunately, you won't be able to get down to the Creek, though, because the foot trails are fairly rocky and steep. My bes...

Re: Grizzly sow and yearling cub in Little America
As always, beautiful shots, Rik! I got a few pix of a good-size griz swimming across Buffalo Creek in mid June. But it didn't have a cub tagging along. A few campers mentioned, though, that they had seen a griz with a cub further up the Creek, towards the 1st meadow. Might be worth checking them out...

Yellowstone Trip June/July
Trip Dates: June 15 thru July 14th We camped at the Mammoth Campground before the Slough Creek CG opened, because I wanted to photograph the elk newborns and spring wildflowers. Had a wonderful time and wasn't the least bit disappointed. Best photo ops and pix came from the upper tier of the campgro...

Re: Like to photo Birds? Here are a few of mine....
Rik and anyone else who may be interested in knowing where and when to find a male Western Tanager in Yellowstone: In early June, I've always found Western Tanagers at the Mammoth Campground. In fact, I've seen a male WT perched in the same tree for the past 5+ years. I'm not sure if it's the same m...
