Re: Camping near Cooke City

Thanks, it will be about June 12th. Soda Butte and the other campgrounds around Cooke City are saying opening is July 1 so I'm hoping I can just disperse camp. Got all I need for it. I have backup reservations in the park but not where I need them for the northern half. Heading toward the park would...

Camping near Cooke City

Does anyone have any knowledge or experience about dispersed camping around Cooke City? I will be in the area before the FS campgrounds open and would like to be as close to Lamar Valley as possible. I do have a hard sided camper.

Re: Vacation ideas

If You don't mind the return trip the Canadian Rockies and surrounding parks are hard to beat for scenery and wild life. I drive everywhere but if you are flying Calgary is a great hub. Another great route is to start in Olympic NP and work your way down the coast including Crater Lake, Redwood NP a...

Re: Snowmobile Trip

Not sure how far you are traveling but I would snowmobile as many days as possible as your flight is a big part of your cost. We usually sled four days with one in the middle to just shop, rest and look around. If you go to West you ride right out of town, with no shuttling. That's a big plus on rid...

Re: Snowmobile Trip

We usually use Yellowstone Tour and Travel. Going in the park is good for seeing those sites but you ride a long way to see them. If you have time you should definitely spend some time in the national forest. That's all we do now and the trails are well marked plus you can get a guide in the NF if y...

Re: First Timers

Split it 5 YNP 2 GTNP or 4/3. Yellowstone is really big and you can spend all the time you want to there. The Tetons are great also but just not as many roads. You certainly need to hit all must see stuff, Old Faithful area, Canyon area, Hayden Valley, Lamar Valley, Mammoth Hot Springs, Norris Geyse...

Your report sounds a little like my most recent fishing trip down your way. I had fun in spite of the wind and hopefully you did too.

Re: Slough Creek

Thanks Yellvet, I guess I didn't make it too clear. I always do find a campsite as soon as I get in the area I'm exploring. I agree, it would be nerve wrecking to wait very late with no place to hang my hat.
