July 19 Wolf, Badger, and Summer Update

The park has been very crowded this summer. One used to be able to slip in the west entrance before 7 AM, but now the rangers are manning the gates at 5:30 AM. Some mornings we have seen it backed up through the town of West Yellowstone by mid morning. But the park is still beautiful and the wildlif...

Pictures Added Scary Moose, Bear Encounter Glacier 6/21

We have added a few pictures to our previous post about the fox, moose and bear encounters in Glacier. Sorry, no pictures of the moose and bear, but Karen did get a couple of the fox.

Re: Glacier Hike Scary Moose, Bear Encounter June 21

When did they implement a reservation system for Going to the Sun Road? (We haven't been to Glacier in the last 10 years, even though we consider it as one of the most beautiful parks in the U.S.). Do you have to take buses now like in Zion National Park, or can you still drive your own vehicle? Th...

Worries About Fire Season

For those coming out to the parks later this summer, I'm concerned you may be dealing with fires and smoke. This is by far the driest we have seen the area in the last five years since we have been spending the summers here. The snow melted early and we have had very little rain or snow in June. The...

Re: Glacier Hike Scary Moose, Bear Encounter June 21

Oh -- and was it pretty crowded? We've been thinking of taking a day or two out of our usual Yellowstone/GT trip to go up to Glacier, but keep getting reports of how crowded it is, that parking lots are full, the Going to the Sun road is now resevation only and you wait long periods of time just to...

Pictures Added Scary Moose, Bear Encounter Glacier 6/21

We decided to take a quick trip to Glacier to celebrate our anniversary. We wanted to hike and also see wildlife. The hikes were beautiful. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51292271176_0a859d6dca_k.jpg DSCF9938 by William Reinke , on Flickr https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51291527257_89400dcb...

Rik, Great photos!!! I always wanted to see one but never have. Are they still endangered or have they made a comeback?

Re: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service considering euthanizing grizzly sow Felicia

This is really disturbing but I'm not surprised. Wyoming Fish and Game uses every opportunity to kill bears, wolves or other predators. Why not get volunteers to control the traffic and reduce the speed limit to 45 over the pass? We have seen her several times and the traffic has always been off the...

Re: First wolf pups born in Colorado since 1940's

That is exciting news! Thanks for sharing the article. Hopefully, these pups will survive and be able to help establish a viable population along with the wolves that will be brought into Colorado. The vote to bring back the wolves barely passed, so there is some opposition. The greatest threat, how...

Great report! Thanks for sharing. Loved the photos, especially the birds. They can be a real challenge to photograph, but you got some great shots. Sounds like you got had a very productive trip in both parks. Glad it went well!
