Re: Phantom Lake Sow and her one-year old cubs

Jeff, yes the first time we saw her we were surprised as well with the location--typically a black bear hangout. We were also surprised of the tolerance for people and the proximity to the road. Don't know where she learned that behavior. Anyway, we are glad to have another bear that provides for us...

Re: Phantom Lake Sow and her one-year old cubs

We have seen her for a couple of years now and got some pretty good shots, or at least so I thought until I saw yours. They are magnificent!!! She seems to like to stand up quite a bit and you captured those poses perfectly. Thanks for sharing.

Wolf Pups--2 Become 5

We had been out to the Junction Butte Wolves' den sight several times this spring and early summer. We have seen two pups and several adults hanging around the "sage den". The Alpha female is a gray, #907, and she is the mother. As the summer moved along we were becoming concerned about the potentia...

Re: Island Park man shoots grizzly in defense-of-life

So sorry, we missed your post until just now! We did not hear of this incident. This was about 15 minutes south of us. We live near Henry's Lake and had a grizzly getting into trash near us a couple of years ago. Fortunately, there were no bear human interactions that we know of. We have seen grizzl...

Re: A few pics of Beryl and her one-year old cubs

So glad you got to see her this year! We did not see her this spring, but you may recall we saw her last year half way up the mountain where she hangs out. Glad to see she and her cubs made it this spring. They look very healthy. Those are great pics and so pleased that you have shared them with us!...

Re: May 24 399 is Alive and Well

Sorry you weren't able to see her. I've heard that typically when the weather warms up, she heads to the high country. Not sure where, but most of the grizzlies are gone now, even in Yellowstone. However, we did see a young adult on Saturday in Hayden grazing in the still-green grass fairly close to...

Those are great shots of the "yotes" . It took me a minute thinking, "What's a yote?" I'm thinking of what the acronym y-o-t-e could stand for like c-o-y is cub of year. Then it hit me--Duh!

Re: Grizzly sow spotted with FIVE COY

I was on Slough Creek Rd looking at the wolf den site when I heard a guy that had a scope say he could see a grizzly with 5 cubs. His scope was pointed south across the park road high up on the hills. I said, "Really, that can't be." So he offered for me to take a look. They were a long ways away, b...

Re: Snow and yearlings on an elk calf

Cool that you got to see Snow, cubs, and Jam all together. We haven't been out east yet this spring, but you are inspiring us to go that way. It is with mixed feelings that we witness up close the predator/prey encounters. A few years ago we were driving into Mammoth from the east and saw a pair of ...
