Great Grey Owl and Neighborhood Fox

Late September we decided to hike one of the trails on the western side of the park. There is not typically as much viewable wildlife as in some of the other places, but animals are there as we have seen some and lots of tracks hiking there. So we are always hopeful. It was a clear, frosty morning w...

Re: GTNP/YNP early October 1-4 trip

Thanks for the post and the beautiful pictures. It has been very dry this year, but fortunately there have been a few rainy days that gave us a little bit of moisture. We were gone for 2 weeks but returned this past weekend and we got 8 inches of snow here in Island Park on Monday. Have not been in ...

Good for you and your wife! So glad you will be able to get in the park more often. We'll have to meet up for another hike. Powell is a nice area and is a short rive to some amazing places. There are some beautiful spots in the Bighorns which is not too far to the east. 'We have explored there just ...

Re: Just a quick trip

Wow! Sounds like you had a great trip. Thanks for sharing. That moose encounter was amazing as were the two bull elk. It was years before we finally saw a pica. We've seen several since but none this year. Sorry you missed 399 but seeing any bear along that stretch of highway is very unusual. We hav...

3 Junction Butte Wolves killed in first week of Hunt

This is so sad.

I posted a link, but took it down after reading the fine print about not republishing. So just google it and you will get the story.

Re: July 19 Wolf, Badger, and Summer Update

We're going the have a day or so in Yellowstone next week. Any idea of where there has been some good animal activity? We were in the park twice this week. Saw a grizzly south of LeHardy Rapids. Also saw wolves and a grizzly in Lamar. There was a bison carcass reasonably close to the road but far e...

Elk? Moose? No, It's a horse! South Entrance

We went back east for a few weeks to visit family and escape the smoke. Wouldn't ya know it while we were gone, it turned cooler and the park got welcome rain. Oh well, thankful for the rain even though we weren't here to enjoy it. Coming back home we drove through the parks as that is the shortest ...

Re: Badgers, Foxes, Moose, Eagles, Wolf -- and bison trees bear!

Hey Dorothy, Sounds like you had another fantastic trip! The bear/bison interaction would have been great to see. I agree that no matter how often you see a particular species of animal, you never know when you're going to witness a different behavior. That mamma was definitely leading the bison awa...

Re: U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service considering euthanizing grizzly sow Felicia

Thanks for the update. A very well-written article. We were through the pass a couple of weeks ago and the signage had changed. Instead of threatening citations, they were saying to use pullouts, keep bears wild, and stay in your car. That was some progress in my opinion. A volunteer wildlife brigad...
