Re: Grizzly Kills Elk in Yellowstone river

Thanks for posting the link. Karen said she hoped you were still in the park because your photos would be much better than ours and she wanted to see them. The photos of the GGO are fantastic! Are you going to post any more from your trip? How about a trip report? We enjoy your posts. Thanks. Bill a...

Huge Grizzly Guarding Elk Kill Sept 19 Update Sept 22

Update September 22--The grizzly is still there on the carcass. This is day 5 of his vigil. He has been eating on it, but it is hard to tell how much is gone because he keeps covering it with dirt. We stopped by today just as several Wapiti wolves showed up in the trees behind him. We did not get a ...

Junctions and Pups Have Moved Sept 12

This past week the Junction Butte wolf pack has left the Slough Creek area and now have all relocated to Lamar Valley. They are being seen just east of the Yellowstone Institute around a couple of grassy knolls and wander back into the trees as the day gets warmer. They still some distance out, too ...

Re: Is the Upper Grand Loop a must do?

It is so exciting to be making that first trip! How much time can you spend in Yellowstone? You could spend the whole time there and not see everything, but since your time is short, I'll give you some suggestions. Yellowstone park is huge in comparison to most other places you visit. While the othe...

Re: Is Lamar Valley worth it?

First of all, Lamar is a beautiful broad valley. It has many bison along with pronghorn, coyotes, an occasional fox and badger, hawks, and eagles. On the eastern edge there are sometimes moose and otters at trout lake. The time of day doesn't matter for the bison and pronghorn. The morning is better...

Re: Quick GT trip

Great report, Dorothy. You certainly did well with the bear sightings. We met some friends in the Tetons on Friday and did Moose Wilson Rd without seeing a thing except for a heron. Just missed 399 near Oxbow but saw a red fox, 2 otters, and an osprey nail a fish as we hiked. Sorry you had the bad e...

Overturned Tanker Spills Gas and Closes Road

Thursday morning a double tanker truck carrying gasoline overturned its back half spilling 3000 gallons of fuel along the road between Canyon and Fishing Bridge. The road is closed from just south of Mud Volcano to Fishing Bridge while the park assesses and cleans up the damage. They don't believe a...

Wolf at Sunrise Friday, August 21

Karen and I had just been to Michigan to visit family, and we drove back the northern route taking the Beartooth Hwy and cutting through Yellowstone to get back to Island Park. Didn't see much except the usual bison, but did see a large group of people milling around near Little America (west of Slo...

Video of wolf/bear encounter from August 6

I found this video taken at the same time Karen and I witnessed it in Lamar Valley (see trip report from August 6). The captions make it seem like this was an attack initiated by the wolves. However, the wolves were just defending their carcass. The mother bear and her two cubs were moving in gettin...
