I think finding anything in YS is going to be tough at this late date. So if you want to be in the park, I'd grab anything I could get. There is lodging available in Cooke City or West Yellowstone which is just outside the park.

Nice! There is a big elk herd around the Hiram Caldwell House in the Cataloochee area of GSMNP. I saw them in 2012.

We saw them a number of years ago also. Not sure if we will make it over there this time, but if we do, we will post pictures.

Better late than never . Thanks for posting. We really enjoyed seeing the photos. We've never had the opportunity to be in the Old Faithful Inn without the multitudes, but appreciated getting a new perspective on a familiar place.

Good for you, PJ, that you saw one. That is definitely on my wish list, but not expected. What area in the park did you see one? This one apparently was near Mammoth.
